Liseberg Park in Göteborg/Sweden builds wooden rollercoaster
All of the timber construction work was performed by the company Ingenieur-Holzbau Cordes, again in cooperation with Merk Holzbau (rails) and Intamin/Switzerland (machinery), as at the Heide Park in Soltau. This rollercoaster was also designed and modelled by the Stengel engineering office in Munich.
SPAX fully threaded 8x300 mm screws have now been used for the first time since their national technical approval Z-9.1-519 as transverse reinforcement.
Unavoidable cracks and splitting of the wood in the area of round insert dowel plugs can lead to a reduction in the load-bearing capacity of the wood. In order to counteract this, the screws reinforce the wood perpendicular to the grain, in the direction in which the wood naturally has the weakest strength properties. It is also expected that this will result in the formation of many small cracks and not of one large one, which will have a positive impact on the strength behaviour.
The roof of the Expo 2000 in Germany was the emblem of the fair. And SPAX International GmbH & Co. KG was deeply involved: approx. 10,000,000 SPAX are in use here, and ensure the permanent strength of the wood.
