  • Drill point for aluminium profiles up to 4.0 mm wall thickness without pre-drilling
  • Not suitable for: Wood with strong alternating twist growth (Cumarú, Massaranduba, IPE planks > 21 x 120 mm etc.).
  • Processing information: Length: 44 mm for max. 20 mm boards, length: 48 mm for max. 24 mm boards, length: 51 mm for max. 27 mm boards
  • Recommendation: Aluminium substructure in thickness 3.0 mm for softwood, aluminium substructure in thickness 4.0 mm for hardwood. Use of SPAX Air between cover board and aluminium profile. Use SPAX drill countersink 4 mm in combination with SPAX drill 5.2
  • Use: for wooden floorboards on aluminium
  • Very low decking construction height of min. 46 mm possible
Waterlogging is a particular threat to wooden substructures, which are almost permanently in the shade and cannot dry out as quickly as the decking boards. A more insensitive substructure consists of aluminum hollow profiles, here SPAX has a clever screw solution for the combination with wooden decking boards in the portfolio - the SPAX Alu decking screw. Like our conventional decking screw, it also has a two-part thread, but the lower, fine thread is for aluminum instead of wood. The fixing thread below the head, which holds the plank creak-free on the substructure, remains the same. In addition, there is the drill point, which it needs to be able to be screwed into aluminum profiles with a wall thickness of up to 4.0 mm without pre-drilling. The thickness of the profiles should depend on the type of wood you have chosen. Our recommendation: Choose an aluminum substructure with 3.0 mm wall thickness for softwood and an aluminum substructure with 4.0 mm for hardwood. It is important to pre-drill the wooden deck boards, preferably with the matching SPAX drill 5.2 mm. The aluminum substructure is not pre-drilled. We do not recommend the use of the aluminum profiles for woods with strong alternate growth such as Cumar, Massaranduba, IPE planks whose dimensions exceed 21 x 120 mm. With the aluminum-wood combination, very low installation heights of the overall construction of only 46 mm are possible, for example for terrace coverings on balconies and flat roofs. For you, this means: no more worries about waterlogging under the wooden deck, no more time-consuming gluing of the substructure timbers. Due to the combined thread of the decking screw Alu you save a lot of time during installation, you do not have to pre-drill the aluminum profiles.
