SPAX made of stainless steel are particularly suitable for outdoor use. They are available in A2 stainless steel for outdoor applications where they are directly exposed to the elements, as well as for use in humid indoor spaces (e.g. kitchen and bathroom). For applications in coastal areas, we recommend the A4 stainless steel version. Stainless steel is characterised by a high chrome content. This forms a protective layer on the surface of the material. Further alloying constituents such as nickel, molybdenum, manganese and niobium give the screws even better corrosion resistance properties.
Austenite is the main metallographic constituent of many stainless steels. It is non-magnetic.
Austenitic stainless steel has a higher resistance to corrosion than martensitic stainless steel.
