For bathroom interior design projects, SPAX screws are only needed for certain jobs, such as fastening shelves or a DIY cabinet. SPAX connectors ensure that side or back walls, sideboards or fittings have a sturdy hold. Although there is no significant static stress, there are still some challenges when it comes to bathroom projects. Given the high humidity level inside, some types of wood may swell. Therefore, when planning your project, go for solid or glued wood types.
What do I need to consider?
Generally speaking, because bathrooms are considered as moisture-prone areas due to their high humidity, you should only use stainless-steel screws. Otherwise, screws in the vicinity of the shower and wash basin may start to rust. Don't forget that bathroom projects also usually involve coated board materials. This means you have to take special care not to split the panel when fastening screws along edges. Given that such boards often have smooth surfaces, it is also important to ensure that the screw tip does not slip upon insertion. Head shapes with milling pockets are therefore ideal, as they remove the need to pre-drill the drill hole. The screw head must not pierce through the thin hardboard used on cabinet rear walls. You should also make sure that screw heads do not protrude so far into the body that they impede the fitting of hinges or drawer runners. Bathrooms also have higher requirements concerning corrosion resistance, which means that as well as choosing your materials carefully, it might also be wise to cover visible screw heads with a plastic decorative cap.
